Best places to take your dog for a walk in Dubai
With dogs being banned from all public parks and beaches in Dubai and with hefty fines that could break the bank for breaching this, finding a place to walk your dog can be rather challenging these days. To help you, we have compiled a list of the dog friendly spots that are most recommended by British Mums that won’t leave you (or your dog) struggling to find a place to run loose!
The Greens
Situated in the Emaar Development just off the Sheikh Zayed Road, this neighbourhood is made up of pedestrian walkways and shaded paths perfect for Dubai’s temperatures. Doggie waste bins are located all around the lakes and buildings meaning that The Greens is a great place for you to enjoy a quiet walk with your dog, whilst taking in some nice scenery too.
The Greens is also one of the few places that has its own dog park where your pet can roam around absolutely free. The downside is, it is only accessible to residents of The Greens and you do need an access card to be able to enter the park.
This is a huge draw for pet owners moving into the area, who for a small fee can use the Pet Park located on Street 6 between the hours of 7am until 10pm.
Jumeirah Village Circle
Nestled between stretches of building works, you can often see huge pockets of sandy areas that make this residential area a good spot to walk your dog. The building works are moving at a rapid rate though, so you’ll have to continue to be open to explore the open land space available.
The Irish Village
You can take your dog with you whilst you’re out for lunch or having a drink or two with friends at the Irish Village. Dogs do need to be kept on their leads but they are provided with bowls of water in many places meaning it’s a good way to get your dog out in the great outdoors.
Jumeirah Lakes Towers
JLT has a good network of winding paths around the lakes with doggy bag dispensers and waste bins situated all along the paths. Jumeirah Lakes Towers is also lined with high-end grooming centres so if your dog needs a nail clip or wash, you can always stop mid-way.
Arabian Ranches
The outer path around Arabian Ranches offers a long, windy and often shaded path that makes for good dog walking in Dubai. You’re bound to meet other dog owners on this circuit that offers a good option to have a natter with your neighbours along the way!
The Desert
The best place to take your dog is into the desert for some much needed lead-free exercise. Some of the best places include the area by Mushrif Park and the spot along the 611 towards the venue for Carols in the Desert. The beauty of living in Dubai is that the further you head inland, the more desert areas you’ll discover, so it’s a great excuse to start exploring vacant spots!
Marina
There’s an open area next to the Skydive Dubai area and Zero Gravity that offers a small area to walk your dog and let them run on an extended long lead.
Woof!
Situated in Al Quoz this is an outdoor playpark for dogs that’s split into two sections based on the size of your dog and their personality type. The day care centre is always supervised by staff and although it doesn’t have a pool, it does offer a complimentary meal for your pet. It’s a good opportunity for your dog to let off steam in its air conditioned premises and is open on Fridays and Saturdays and costs just 10 AED per hour weekdays and 20 AED per hour on weekends!
Urban Tails
Situated in Dubai Investment Park it offers doggie day care with a difference! Urban Tails offers three all weather indoor day care centres and a shaded garden area. Each dog is socialised according to their size and temperament and all dogs are encouraged to run around as much as possible. They have a pool for hot weather and the day care is open from Saturday – Thursday from 07:00 to 19:00 and costs 85 AED per dog regardless of how long you stay for. All dogs must have undergone a kennel cough vaccination that can be administered by your veterinary clinic.
My Second Home
My Second Home is a doggy resort that’s one of Dubai’s largest at 5,800 square metres. Play areas are climate controlled and in their fabulous dog park that comes with a pool and play equipment, dogs are separated according to size and temperament. They are watched over by hand-picked carers who are avid dog lovers themselves and full day of attendance and a full day of care and play for your dog will cost 100 AED but to use this, you do need to become a member which will cost you another 500 AED.
Dogwalk
What started as a pet spa and rehabilitation centre for dogs now includes a hotel, daycare, rehabilitation, training and behaviour, grooming and even pet hydrotherapy in their pool on site at their Al Quoz centre. It’s a really brightly coloured, excellently equipped place that incorporates a number of indoor and outdoor dog parks that promises treatment for VIP very important pets! Prices are 20 AED per hour with usual vaccination and socialisation requirements.

How to relocate your pet back home from the UAE
Taking your pet back home with you when you move can sound stressful, but it doesn’t have to be a difficult process. It’s pretty easy, especially if your dog or cat is up-to-date with their vaccinations and has been micro chipped already.
There are 2 ways you can export your pet from the UAE to other countries.
1. By the DIY (Do It Yourself) method that we will detail below, or
2. By using a pet relocation specialist.
What is a pet relocation specialist?
They are a company that will work with you to transport your pet safely from the UAE to anywhere in the world), or equally the other way around coming into Dubai. They will handle the documentation, flights and customs and clearance procedures at either ends of the routes with many offering a door to door service.
Is it true that I can check in my pet as excess luggage?
Contrary to popular opinion, many countries do not accept pets checked in as excess luggage. The UK, Ireland, Australia, Hong Kong, China and South Africa do not accept this method.
Travelling by cargo from the UAE to the UK
Major airlines such as British Airways, Emirates, Etihad, Virgin Atlantic and Qatar Airways are all authorised carriers for pets, as long as they meet certain conditions with their health and vaccinations..Do note that banned dog breeds that cannot be imported in to the UAE are Pitbull, Mastiff, Japanese Tosa/Hybrid, Wolf/hybrid, Rottweiler, Dobermann Pinchers, Canario Presa’s or any mix of any of the above breeds.
The Do it Yourself method to obtain paperwork
You will need to decide when to book your flight for your pet and yourself. If you’re looking to travel at a peak time of year it’s best to make a temporary reservation on the flight that you want for yourself and then call up your nominated airline’s cargo department straight away to see if they can confirm space on the same flight as you for your pet. Your pet doesn’t have to travel on the same flight as you, but if you’re wanting to collect your pet yourself directly on arrival, you’ll need to arrange this, otherwise it is possible to nominate someone else to collect your pet on your behalf.
Paperwork
At Dubai Municipality Ministry of Climate Change and Environment you can obtain a “Third country official veterinary certificate” (also known as a health certificate) for your pet, which is valid for 10 days before your departure date. This costs around 30 AED and on this, they will record your pet’s microchip number, vaccination details, dates and their authorisation within the certificate they issue.
If your pet hasn’t been vaccinated or micro chipped yet, take your pet, its identity and vaccination records and any blood test results (if you have them) and if your pet has travelled before, take along your previous records too. You may also need to acquire an export certificate from the Ministry of Climate Change and the Environment. Their telephone number is 04 2958161 and you can email them at info@moew.gov.ae
